BUILDING 14 LAB WORK SAVED As we reported last month, the Company gave Local 506 notice in January of their intent to outsource the Building 14-Lab work. They told the Union the transfer would affect two hourly workers. The Local 506 negotiating committee, comprised of the Officers, Recording Secretary Dale Stubenhofer and Plant Services’ Chief Steward Ralph Mannarino, met with the Company negotiators on three separate occasions to seek more information and to begin offering alternatives to the proposed outsourcing. During the fourth session, on Thursday, February 24, 2005 the Union’s negotiating committee successfully resolved the matter with the Company. After reviewing information and suggestions supplied by Ralph and the Committee, the Company offered to transfer the two workers and the equipment to Building 20 where they will, basically, continue to perform the work they did in Building 14. We don’t win them all, but saving the two Building 14-Lab jobs is yet another example where improved Job Preservation language has given the Union an opportunity to meet with the Company, to enter into rational discussions during "Intent Bargaining" and come to favorable terms. |
