UE 506 represents almost 4,000 working men and women in the GE location in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Founded in 1937, UE 506 has a proud history of aggressive rank and file struggle.
We are a very diverse group of people performing an equally diverse range of jobs. We are locomotive assemblers, motor and armature builders, machinists, tool room workers, electrical and mechanical repair people, computer repair people, material control people, crane operators, welders, painters, sheet metal workers, inspectors, quality control auditors, packers, shippers and other skills and trades not mentioned here.
We work at the GE, Erie plant on three different shifts, in many different buildings. Most of us live in Pennsylvania, but we have people who live in New York State and also in Ohio.

We are all interested in maintaining a good standard of living with the best working and living environment we can attain, for ourselves, our families and our communities. This is our philosophy and the basis of how we operate every day, in and out of the shop. You can see our ideas at work in our Sports Committee, our Legislative Action Committee, our GE retirees' group (R.A.G.E.), Jobs with Justice and others.

UE LOCAL 506 Mission Statement

For 70 years UE Local 506 has waged an aggressive struggle on behalf of its members, which has resulted in substantial progress in wages, benefits and conditions. Our mission is to continue that tradition of struggle, so that we and those who follow us are able to live and work in dignity and security.
We will continue to operate on the basis of democratic unionism and rank and file control to insure that our mission is carried out.
